Gen. Saychai Kommasith, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Director General Staff Department, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Unitel Company Limited, with Keowisuk Soraphom, Deputy Minister of Technology and Communications, and representatives from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Education and Sports, invited guests and media In.
Lt. Gen. Saychai Kommasith opened the event and commented on the ceremony: In a joyful atmosphere, Star Telecom (Unitel) is very pleased to hold a ceremony to announce the official ownership of the live broadcast rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Laos. The FIFA World Cup 2026, to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will be the largest edition in the tournament's history, featuring 48 national teams and 104 matches. Under the arrangement, football fans across the country will be able to watch every match live and free of charge through Unitel's television, mobile, and online platforms, ensuring broad and convenient access to the tournament.
Speaking at the event, Unitel representatives said the acquisition of the broadcasting rights reflects the company's commitment to expanding public access to major international sporting events and enhancing digital entertainment services in the Lao PDR.
