(LPAN) On May 21 at Nghi Loc War Cemetery (Dong Loc commune, Nghe An province), the Nghe An provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee held a memorial and burial ceremony for 80 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and advisors sacrificing their lives in Laos during wartime. Their remains were found in Laos lately.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Khac Thit, Provincial Governor of Nghe An Province, representatives of the leadership of organizations, the Provincial Military Command, the Party Committees and Commands of Military Region 4, and Comrade Dr. Sivienxay Orlaboun, Head of the Special Task Force of Vientiane Province, the Special Task Force of Xieng Khouang Province, the Special Task Force of Xaysomboun Province, and relevant organizations.
During the 2025-2026 dry season, in response to the “500-day-and-night campaign to search for, collect, and identify martyrs’ remains,” the collection team under the Nghe An provincial Military Command overcame difficulties and coordinated closely with Lao functional forces and people to search for and exhume the remains of 80 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and advisors who fell in the neighboring country.
In a solemn atmosphere, delegates and locals respectfully offered flowers and incense to express their profound gratitude to the heroic martyrs who bravely sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation, national defense, and noble international duties.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Sivienxay Orlaboun leaders representing the three Lao provinces expressed their boundless sorrow and offered a solemn farewell to the martyrs who had rested on Lao soil for many years and are now returning to their motherland. The Lao delegates also affirmed their determination to preserve and cultivate the evergreen and sustainable-forever Vietnam-Laos relationship.
